An Expert Witness is required when it is necessary to have opinion evidence to assist in the resolution of a dispute.

There are three types of Experts:

• Party Appointed Expert (PAE)
• Single Joint Expert (SJE)
• Expert Advisor

Current rules encourage the use of a Single Joint Expert (SJE) who is instructed by both parties in the dispute to provide an opinion on the issue in the proceedings.

The "Model Form of Expert Report" which is approved by the Judicial Committee is used. The form was developed to provide a 'Judge Friendly' format for the judiciary.
